What the guild can expect from a Holy/Discipline Priest:

In a Raid or group:

1) Appropriate healing

This means that if a priest is able to heal you, they will. There are many situations in which a priest may not be able to heal you. For example, in a raid there are classes that get priority for healing, such as warriors. If we can heal you without jeopardizing the outcome of the raid we will.

Heal priorities:

1) Main Tank (the one taking the damage)
2) Other priests
3) Mage
4) Warlock
5) Non MT warriors

The other classes can either heal themselves, or have an aggro reducing feature. This does not mean we will not heal you, just that there is a queue.

2) Timely buffs

If you need a buff, please ask for it. If you're not getting a response in the public channel, try a /w. We're not ignoring you on purpose. We spend a lot of time watching health bars, so we don't always notice when everyone doesn't have Fortitude.

3) Resurrections

If you do happen to die, we will do our best to resurrect you.

What a Holy/Discipline Priest expects from the guild:

1) Line of Sight

Please try to stay in line of sight of where the priests are standing. We are primarily staying so we can heal the tanks, so if you go behind a pillar, we won't be able to land a heal on you.

2) Aggro assistance

Occasionally priests gain aggro through healing. We do have a spell called Fade, that reduces aggro, but it isn't always 100% effective. If you see a priest taking a beat down, give them a hand, be it a heal, or some damage on the mob to take it's attention.

3) Courtesy and Respect

Priests have a very exciting and demanding job in game that carries a large amount of responsibility. The unfortunate truth is that sometimes a player (or all the players!) in the raid or group is going to die. Please don't assign blame publicly for any mishaps that happen in a raid.

Please do not gripe about not being healed in a public channel. No one likes to be yelled at, or blamed for a mishap. Believe me, we feel bad enough that you died.

If you are having issues with a priest, please bring it up with the priest in question. If that does not solve the issue, please bring it to the attention of the priest class leader, when one is assigned.

4) The ability to upgrade equipment

Generally, if a priest has selected Discipline/Holy as their specialization, it means that they have focused themselves towards healing, rather than DPS.

Priests heal using their mana pool. The size of the mana pool is determined by the amount of Intelligence the priest has, and the regeneration of the mana pool is influenced by the amount of spirit they have. In addition, when/if we do take aggro, stamina helps us stay alive a little bit longer, by having more hit points.

Priests wear Cloth Armour. We can use Off-Hand items, as well as Daggers, Maces, and 2H Staves.

Additional perks that may interest priests are:

Nice things you can do for your guild Priests:

1) Summoned Water!

2) Find out if they need any enchants to help make them an even better healer, and donate reagents.

3) Pick up some of the sacred candle reagent's from the Reagent Vendor (found in IF, SW, and Darn) and bring them with you to the raid

4) Tell them if you think they are doing a good job

5) Tell them if you think they are doing a bad job (very respectfully, and VERY privately.) By not telling us, we'll just keep doing the bad thing, which doesn't help the guild. If you want help with formulating an appropriate /w feel free to ask for help from an officer, or the class leader.

6) Invite them to group/quest with you. Particularly if they are not level 60 yet. While we can solo, it isn't as fast/easy/efficient as some other classes. We spec'd holy/discipline to group!

If any of our guild mates have anything they would like to add to What the Guild Expects from Holy/Discipline Priest, please post it, and it will be added to the list.

Additional Notes: (Thank you Provalone!)

1) we really don't need you to tell us when you need a heal, with a macro or a tell. We know that you need a heal, its our job to know you need a heal, but as said above, chances are we are healing someone else, or ourselves, or we are just flat out of mana.

2) If you should die, please don't release....it makes it a little harder to find you and thats just not nesacery.

3) if the group wipes....release and run you butt back with the rest of the group, you are not any more special than any1 else, if I have to run, you do too.

4) don't bug for a buff. You play day in and day out with out a buff....when you go farm you don't have a buff....so don;t throw a fit if you don't get it right away. I think for a boss or certain times it is needed, but to run through scholo or something similar...you don't...get over it.

5) In larger groups like a ZG, MC, or even a UBRS run, it would be nice that all those who rez ppl would use a Macro to let others know who you are rezing...this would make recoveries abit quicker and save mana and patience.

There is one large debate when it comes to healing, do I want gear that has more +int gear...so I have more mana, or do I want +healing gear so that my heals heal for more. From what I have found for myself, and what others have told me as far as imput, make a happy medium. Going one way or the other may not get you what you are looking for.

Additional, Additional Notes: (Thank you Rendall)

*Priests dont forget to heal, we let you die.
*The MT should be the only one biting off more then he can chew. That Goon is in armor. let him do his job.
*Mages, You want to AoE the army of ankle biters surrounding the MT? make a macro so we know. if i see ----AoE do your best to keep your water boy alive---- :) we can shiled you and spam flash heal back to back to back to back to back to back....may take some tweaking of raid assist but auto-canceling cast works great. if you have above a set % health, we dont lose mana. no promises there about the whole you staying alive thing but your chances (and groups) improve dramatically with a little macro.
-You yell "heal me" all day, i'll start yelling "hit the mob" every pull. every once and a while is fine, but if its between the MT, anyone who can res the party, and you...let's just say if you can get away and bandage, get away and bandage. if we can spare the mana, believe me, you'll get healed.

Play your game how you want to play. have a good time, and push yourself. You can solo a mob of 4? Great! now how about 6.....? You can drop 6 your lvl? your my new tag team priest partner. Even in MC and ZG. your job if to keep your mana up and casualties down. Either with DPS or healing. a 40 man raid doesnt wipe because of 1 priest not healing. however, a 40 man raid can wipe because of a priest not playing in a manner that benefits the group. (DMG/HealCharts are cool and all) but you cant be top of anything if everyone's dead. Shadow form for trash mobs in MC/ZG is fine so long as you can afford the Mana Potions and can still handle your Main tank responsibilities. Under no circumstances will that MT fall when he is gaining aggro on any boss. let alone a boss that lives in liquid hot magma.
