RWR: One of the biggest tips I can give anyone looking to understand ICANN is to first try to understand Network Solutions, the White House and the Fortune 500 circa 1995-1999. This timeframe sets the context and created the dynamics that led to the formation of ICANN - government hubris, monopoly greed and arrogance, and the big business reaction to being left behind by the internet.
