Mission Statement and Guild Policies, by Cairn Toul

The Elites
The Elites are a guild that has been around since 1999, starting out in Asheron’s Call and then moving to Asheron’s Call 2, and now to World of Warcraft. We are generally a mature group with ages ranging from 10 to 60.

We have husbands and wives that play together, and some that even play with their children. A lot of us have been gaming together for several years and we have members from the US, Canada, Australia, and Europe. We are predominately East Coast US players but we have a clan presence in game around the clock.

World of Warcraft Servers:
Main Server: Lothar (PvE) – Horde
Alternate Server: Icecrown (PvE) – Alliance
PvP Server: Stormreaver (Alliance)

CairnToul is the overall Guild Master and runs the guild on Lothar.
AngGeeLa and Whitedragon run the guild on Icecrown.

Guild Policies:

  1. Do not violate Blizzard’s Terms of Service or Code of Conduct. Be guided by the CoC for conversations on Ventrilo.
  2. Elite Code:
* Try to treat your guild mates with respect even if at times they might not warrant it.
* In your endeavors on Azeroth you should carry The Elite name with pride.
* People should know you are The Elite because of your actions not because you can spam the channels telling them so.
* No swearing on guild chat as we have several youngsters in the clan. We do this out of respect for them or their parents, some of whom are also guild members and long-time friends.

The Clan Web Site: (www.elitesguild.net)
Cylen is the primary administrator for the clan website. Please check in regularly as we will use the site to post useful information, share tips and guides, and schedule clan events or quests. It is also a great way to keep in touch with guild friends when you have to be away from the game for extended periods of time.

Game Play:
Play the game as you want and get as much out of it as you can. You are responsible for own conduct but try to be cognizant of what repercussions your actions may have on other Elites. If your play style griefs, ninja-loots, annoys other guild members and even other guilds, or otherwise gives The Elites a bad name, then you may not be welcome to remain in the guild.

Recruitment/Guild Ranks:
Only the Guild Master and Elite Elders will be able to recruit members.
Ventrilo will be the primary tool in the process of advancement as well as to listen to petitions from Veterans on someone’s behalf. Some of you will be bringing friends into the clan for the first time and may petition for their early advancement. Veteran status will require you to have the advancement of all aspects of the guild high on your agenda, after having a great deal of fun.

Guild Master:
Guild Master is responsible for overseeing the direction of the guild, coordinating with the officers, and leading discussions with players seeking membership and other guilds. This position is very time demanding and your patience is always appreciated.

Elite Elder:
Elder rank will be for those who meet the requirements of an officer but will also be arbiters in any disputes and deal with new recruits, promotions, demotions and removal of players from the clan.

Officer / Officer Alt:
Officer rank is for those players who are conspicuous with meeting one or more of the following criteria: Going out of their way to help/promote the guild, very knowledgeable of many aspects of the game, good instance/raid leaders, cool reasoning head, supplying many in the guild with gear/items.
Officers do, however, have a responsibility to themselves, the clan, and the Guild Master, and are answerable to their fellow officers and GM. An Officer Alt is purely a mechanism for officers to have access to the in-game officer channel so any issues that arise can be quickly discussed while playing their Alts.

Elite Veteran:
Elite Veterans are the core of the guild, their actions are more about advancement of the guild than themselves.

Elite:
Elite rank is for those who stand by our ideals and feel they have found the right guild for their home in Azeroth.

Member:
Members will have to see if they like our rules and the way we play and should be seeking advancement to Elite rank after several weeks in the guild.

Initiate:
Initiate will be for those players who haven’t registered their characters on this site. When future rules become active initiates will have a week’s grace to register then either get booted or promoted to Member.

Disputes:
Disputes will happen from time to time and will be handled by the Guild Master and Elders. Any complaints about another guild member should be addressed to one of the Elders who will discuss the issue with the other Elders and the Guild Master. If all parties need to be involved and should a need arise for arbitration, it will be scheduled at the earliest convenience to everyone involved.

If you have a beef with someone and need an officer's assistance be cool and coherent. If you have a bad day and take it out on a guild-mate, you may well be testing the loyalty of friends if you get dropped from the guild.

Grouping:
WoW offers much more opportunity to solo than many other MMORPGs, but we all know from the past that it is a better experience to have your friends about you. We will need to group up for "Elite" grade quests but don’t be too quick to knock them out when you get one, as there will usually be several to do in the same place and you can always lend a hand to others who may need to get through pre-requisite quests. For Raid group quests later in the game, we can link up with other clans, if needed, and check the server boards for planned raids.

Questing:
There are so many quests in the game that it makes it difficult to remember details even a few days after completing one. Also, questions posed about night elf starting area quests may not be answered by even the most experienced players simply because they may have never played that race.
Thottbot.com continues to be an excellent source of details and should be your main reference if the quest log fails to give you enough information.
Always feel free to ask questions in guild chat, but recognize that many folks may not know the answer, so get feel frustrated or ignored - a little research on your part may help you find the answer you need in a more timely manner.

Who's Who and What Do You Do:
It can take time for us to learn the names and professions of everyone’s Alts. To make life easier please use the Player Note each character in the guild has to put in your Ventrilo name or Main char name along with any trade skill you might have, eg: “Rock Pusher LW 150 Skin 160,” or “Alf Alch 200 Herb 180.” If these are kept up to date then clan mates can send you drops you may need for crafting or send orders for gear.

Guild Crafters:
Not everyone will be cut out to be a full time crafter but any who are not will be able to make money and help the clan if they're just gatherers:
Miners, Herbalists, and/or Skinners. Everyone can be a great help to crafters who need particular mob drops to make gear. Usually these drops are off mobs that cant be soloed by the crafter at the requisite level for the item but a small group will be enough and the exp along with one of the crafted items should make the trip worth while.

Generally, if your character wears cloth armor and swings a mace in combat, you should check out tailoring and blacksmithing recipes for gear that the crafters can be making for you as you level. The main crafters should also be aware of those recipes that they will be getting and what items guild mates could be looking out for. Generally crafted items are better than the average gear you find but not the best, however not everyone has the luck or opportunity to get the best of the loot drop items and generally half your gear will be crafted and half quest rewards, unless you make so much cash you can buy the very best gear at the auction house.

Loot Items:
Generally any looted items with a Grey text name should be sold to a vendor for cash.

Non-gear items with White, Green or Blue text will have some value to guild crafters or at the Auction House. Avoid selling any items at the auction house without first getting an idea of what it is worth. Set a buyout only when you know the item’s value.

It should go without saying, but do not put items up for auction with a buyout less than what you can get from a vendor, and especially take into consideration the auction house commission fee that you will be charged to sell something. It may wind up being more profitable to sell it to the vendor.

Looted items that are "Bind on equip" can be sent to a clan mate or sold at the auction but check the auction for similar level items - it may be not as good or may be better to vendor the item and save money on the auction house commission on a no-sale. If your lucky enough to find Blue or Purple text gear you can not use on the character you are playing, you can get great money for them at the auction house from those players who must have uber gear, but please bear in mind a guild friend who might like it.

Any recipes you get from mob loot will usually only be available to crafters through mob drops and may be quite rare. Some mob drop recipes are also required for crafters to complete their specializations in their field and can be critical to their advancement. With this in mind, do try to check if the guild crafters have this recipe before selling it at the auction.

Groups that find rare Bind on Pick-up items should take care that if they roll for the item without thought they may be taking an item that they can't use and is just vendor cash to them. If group members see items that they can use being taken by classes that have no possible use for it, this can lead to a great deal of ill-will and they will be remembered for it. Anyone having multiple complaints from outside the guild over such behavior will not be holding up the clan's ideals so will no longer be a member. Likewise report the name and guild of any player that uses this tactic on you so they can at least be avoided and possibly reported to their guild leader.

Ventrilo Voice Server:
This is the best thing since sliced bread for a MMORPG game. It allows you to just listen, if you have no microphone, or converse with your guild-mates during quests or raids. You can stay in the lobby and listen and realize that the people in guild chat you thought were crazy are indeed crazy or jump into one of the questing channels if you need to concentrate on a quest. Do not be apprehensive about joining us on Ventrilo if English is not your primary language or are more used to written than spoken English.
We have several guild members who come on just to listen, and perhaps try to learn to speak better English, and some in the guild can provide Dutch or French translations. Those on dial up or lower spec machines do have a problem in that it does take up some of your bandwidth, and it may or may not make the game more laggy - you will have to test this out for yourself.
Perhaps you may just be connected for chatting while not questing. Use the link on this site to download Ventrilo and get connected.

Helping others in the Guild:
Some people help others, some people don’t. Generally, we all help out our friends so making friends is key to getting help from other guild members.
If you solo every day and expect the perfect team to appear for an instance you will likely be disappointed. If you can get three or four people for an instance a higher level is more likely to come help out, as it is a better use of time getting four guild members through a quest at one time, then doing it one at a time, four different times. If you want to do an instance for the thrill and sense of achievement, then do not ask a level 60 to help with Wailing Caverns, and ask them to heal or tank for you, while you do the killing.

If you do need an instance do not always expect to do it the day you get the quest. Check the guild roster and look for others your level and /whisper, mail, or chat with them on Ventrilo to see if you can arrange a day and time to do it later. If you have a couple of instance quests, check what other quests you can do in there and also what prerequisite quests you need to do.
Many quest series end in instances and it’s always harder if the group is at different stages. In this guild, bailing on your guild mates is not acceptable, and we are not done until we are all done. More frequent use of the quest forum on this site can help in scheduling group quests or raids.

We always encourage volunteers, that will make their higher level characters available once a week to join groups for support, and if necessary, wiping whole dungeons if you have had a quest for a long time and been unable to get the team to do it.

For quests that require crafted items we have enough crafters to supply items for most quests. So, if you need a potion of strong trolls blood, a moonsteel sword, or a blunderbuss, check the guild player notes for the guild website for a list of crafters. Keep in mind that if they do not have the materials it maybe quicker to buy the mats from the Auction House or get them from another guild member to hand over to the crafter if you want it finished quickly.

If you see a nice crafted item and want one made, check with the crafters to see how you can help each other get you that item made. Even if you cannot supply the materials and he has to go out and hunt for them, you may have something else that he may need that makes it worth his while. For example, CairnToul can make some sweet Devilsaur armor, but may need a blacksmithed item to make something else, or may need some herbs to trade for Alchemy potions – so do your best to help those that help you.

With that said do use the guild list and see where the person is your seeking help from. If they are in an instance they will likely miss guild chat and may be too busy to reply in detail to direct tells so maybe use the in-game mail or check with them later.

We will also arrange for a raid size tour of a couple of elite non-instance areas as well as 10 man tours of instances so you can get some experience of larger parties and a look around some dungeons prior to doing them for real.
Every instance is good experience to build up skills for the end game raids as well as getting to know the skills of other classes with which you will eventually group.

Raid Channel Etiquette
The leader sets the looting rules, objectives, and start time. Raids are usually announced on the guild Message of the Day (MotD), so arrive ON TIME with any requisite quests in your log. If you have particular quests to do, make sure you contact the leader beforehand to check if these can be accommodated. Keep chat to a minimum so the leader has the channel clear.
The leader will select who pulls, the main assist, etc. and where everyone should go - so listen up to instructions! We will post the different looting rules that the main raid leaders use so you can check their differences.

Summary:
Play nice, play well, have fun, help each other out, and be "The Elites"
